Our seven saddle styles, available in five sizes and two base types, ensures that a broad spectrum of horse & rider combinations can be accommodated comfortably, with neither feeling they are compromising for the other. Based on the information provided ahead of your test ride, we can supply a selection of SMART Saddles for you to try before you buy, for even the typically tricky to fit back shapes.

 

SMART Sizing

Uniquely to SMART Saddles, we first size to the rider. Using the rider’s height and weight , along with information on their length of thigh and any personal preferences, we can gauge the best seat size(s) for the rider to try. SMART Saddles are available in sizes 2 (small children and very petite adults) to size 6 (for a taller or larger adult), with our most popular size being 4 (approximately equivalent to riding in a 17 –17.5” traditional saddle).

Which SMART Saddle model?

The SMART Elite VSD: Supports a classical dressage position with scope to ride a little shorter when needed.

 

Thanks to the flexible saddle design, the SMART saddle will lift and flex over the shoulder so your saddle choice needn’t be restricted by your horse's conformation e.g. you can still opt for a forward cut SMART saddle, even if your horse has a large shoulder.

 

Choosing the right panel

The optimal base panel for your horse will depend on their back profile and body condition.

As a general rule, the SMART Elite saddle range will fit the widest range of back shapes; the upswept core suiting sports horses with prominent withers whilst remaining flexible enough to accommodate wider back shapes, too.

The SMART Native is a game-changer for round or short back shapes with little to no wither definition. The range of styles available offers the perfect solution for the more active traditional breeds, as well as those used for leisure riding and hacking.

Compare & Contrast

It is normal to try more than one SMART Saddle at a Test Ride to get the right size and style for the rider and base shape for the horse. It is important that any saddle you try is correctly fitted and balanced for the individual horse and rider to ensure optimum performance from your SMART Saddle. The right set up for one horse and rider combination may not be the best for another. The external balance pad system and adjustable knee & thigh blocks are used to fine-tune the saddle fit. This system enables continual adjustments to be made throughout seasonal changes, as a horse develops, or between disciplines/riders.

SMART Customisations

Make your SMART Saddle as individual as you are by adding the finishing touches to your chosen saddle; design your own custom cantle, upgrade to colourful stirrup leather keepers or add some suede or patent features. From fancy leathers and a choice of colours, metallics, crystals and Hi-Vis, there really is a SMART saddle for everyone.
