When I bought a difficult to fit Welsh D x pony last summer, I struggled to find a saddle to fit her wide body comfortably. I continued to ride her in the GP saddle that came with her, but I wasn't convinced she was very happy ridden in it and my preference is a dressage saddle, having ridden in them for so many years, so I found it difficult to return to riding in a GP style.
A friend recommended SMART Saddles to me, saying they were so comfortable to ride in and they fitted her extra wide cob, so I thought I would check them out at an event that was coming up. I sat on two different demo SMART dressage saddles and I couldn't believe how comfortable they felt and looked very smart too!
Fast forward a couple of months and we had booked our SMART Test Ride, where a SMART Advisor arrived at the yard with a new SMART Elite Dressage saddle for us to try. The Advisor was amazing and so helpful, she gave my pony a good look over and assessed her very carefully before fitting the saddle for us to try. We had a ride around the arena and I was instantly surprised how both myself and pony felt comfortable with the saddle, so comfortable in fact we bought the saddle there and then!
I had a good feeling that it was going to work out at last with using a SMART saddle, the SMART Advisor had such great knowledge and I trusted her ability to fit both my pony and I. I was also very happy that you could rent a SMART saddle for a couple of weeks to trial it out before committing to a purchase; we schooled, hacked out and went off to ride at a clinic, so we gave the saddle a thorough test.
I am delighted to find a saddle that both the pony and I are happy in!
